Individual Dog Placement

A Professional Placement Service

A guided, behavior-informed pathway to help a dog find the right home — not just any home.

$250one-time for the first dog · application-based · professional review, vetting & transition support

Finding a home is only part of the responsibility. Finding the right home, and preparing a dog for what comes next, is where responsible placement begins.

Dogs can experience tremendous harm through poorly considered placements. A dog who was doing well may develop fear, insecurity, or defensive behaviors after being placed into an unsuitable environment or through repeated transitions — making each subsequent placement harder. This service exists to help prevent those outcomes, not merely facilitate rehoming.

Who It's For

For people who want to do right by the dog.

This service is for people willing to invest the time, thought, and effort to understand the individual dog, evaluate prospective homes responsibly, and support a successful transition. Urgency may be part of your circumstance — but urgency shouldn't determine where a dog ends up.

Your own circumstances have changed.

You're caring for a dog temporarily or independently fostering.

You've assumed responsibility for a dog, or inherited care of one.

You're helping another person place a dog.

The dog was found or abandoned.

The dog may be looking for a permanent home for the first time.

Being connected to or caring for a dog doesn't always mean someone has legal authority to place them. When needed, YHMAW distinguishes the relationship to the dog from the authority to make placement decisions.

What It Isn't

  • Not a classified ad.
  • Not first come, first served.
  • Not a guarantee of publication or placement.
  • Not finished when the dog leaves.

What It Is

  • An individualized, behavior-informed process.
  • Responsible screening and due diligence.
  • Safety-conscious placement decisions.
  • Structured transitions and ongoing support.

The Placement Pathway

How the process works.

Responsible placement has two separate jobs: vetting — who is this person, and is this a legitimate opportunity? — and matching — does this person, household and environment actually make sense for this individual dog?

Step 1

Start with the situation

Tell us about your relationship to the dog and the circumstances surrounding the need for placement.

Step 2

Understand the dog

History, behavior, environment and experiences are considered in context to build an accurate understanding of the individual dog.

Step 3

Prepare for visibility

Submitting information or paying the fee does not automatically publish a dog. Appropriate requirements must be met first.

Step 4

Look beyond interest

When someone is interested, the question isn't only whether they want the dog. Their household, lifestyle, expectations, environment and readiness matter too.

Step 5

Evaluate the fit

Match Intelligence™ supports more informed consideration of the dog-human-environment fit. The person with placement authority retains the final decision.

Step 6

Support the transition

A successful handoff is not the end of the story. Transition into the new home matters, supported by The Bridge to Belonging™.

Match Intelligence™

Match on what matters.

Not just a photo. Not just a breed. Not just a story. Not just who applies first. The question isn't “Do you want this dog?” — it's “Do you and this dog make sense together?”

Information is gathered

Relevant information is collected from the interested person to consider fit and safety.

Fit and safety are considered

Potential alignment is weighed, not assumed from enthusiasm alone.

The responsible person decides

The person with legitimate placement authority retains the final placement decision.

Interest does not equal access. Someone expressing interest should not automatically receive private contact information, gain access to the dog, or become the adopter.

What's Included

This isn't a listing fee.

The placement fee gives you access to a structured process designed to understand the dog more accurately, vet prospective homes thoughtfully, match on what matters, and support what happens next.

Understand the dog

  • Guided dog intake and individual placement profile
  • A more accurate, context-rich understanding of the individual dog
  • Behavior-informed placement considerations

Vet thoughtfully. Match meaningfully.

  • Safety-conscious vetting guidance
  • Authenticated prospective homes, not anonymous applicants
  • Human Readiness process for prospective homes
  • Match Intelligence™ across meaningful dog-human-environment factors

Place and support the transition

  • YHMAW public visibility once the dog reaches Publication Ready
  • Guidance through applicant consideration and placement
  • Bridge to Belonging™ transition support
  • Four post-placement check-ins

Four post-placement check-ins.

The service includes four post-placement check-ins to help the placement succeed, as part of The Bridge to Belonging™ transition support.

The Missing Middle™

Placement isn't the finish line.

There's a critical space between identifying a possible home and a dog actually becoming secure, understood and integrated within that home. Safety and welfare don't stop once someone takes the dog home.

Pricing

$250 to start. Less for additional dogs.

The fee gives one dog access to the full Individual Dog Placement pathway. When multiple dogs are rehomed by the same guardian as part of the same circumstance, each additional dog is priced lower.

Additional professional support.

Individual Dog Placement includes professional behavioral review, placement guidance, and support throughout the standard placement process.

Some dogs, humans, or placement circumstances may benefit from additional professional support beyond what's included.

When appropriate, services such as private behavioral consultation, Behavioral Wellness Assessment, training or behavioral support, and higher-touch placement strategy may be available separately.

Publication, applicant interest, compatibility, placement timeline, and placement outcome cannot be guaranteed.

Responsible Placement

Finding a home has changed.

Posting a dog online and hoping to find a “good home” can feel like the obvious next step. But a friendly message, convincing story, or willingness to pay a rehoming fee does not establish who someone really is or whether they are equipped to care for a particular dog.

A friendly message isn't vetting.

A social profile isn't verification.

A rehoming fee isn't protection.

Patience & Urgency

The right home is worth waiting for.

Urgency may be part of the circumstance. It should not become the standard for the decision. Understanding the dog, vetting, asking questions, and evaluating fit all take time — and sometimes the responsible decision is to wait rather than say yes to a home that isn't right.

Important expectations.

Applying does not guarantee acceptance. This is an application for a professional service, subject to review and approval.
Paying does not guarantee placement. Your fee provides access to the placement services described here — not a particular outcome.
YHMAW does not assume ownership or custody of your dog. You retain legal responsibility throughout the process.
There is no guaranteed timeline. Sometimes the right home appears quickly; sometimes it takes time. We will not lower our standards to meet a deadline.

Full legal terms, including the service agreement, refund policy, and placement-specific acknowledgments, are presented during checkout — not here.
